How We Review Software at DemoStack
How We Review Software at DemoStack
Our review methodology is built around one principle: give readers the information they need to make a confident decision, not the information vendors want them to see.
Our Editorial Mission
DemoStack exists to make software research faster, clearer, and more trustworthy for business owners and teams. We publish reviews, comparisons, roundups, and educational guides across SaaS categories including payroll, HR, accounting, sales, marketing, e-commerce, and productivity tools.
Our editorial team selects tools to review based on reader demand, market relevance, and genuine utility for the small business and startup audience we serve. We do not accept payment for reviews, and we do not allow vendors to approve or edit our content before publication. Our opinions are our own.
How We Research and Test
Every review published on DemoStack goes through a consistent research and evaluation process before it is published. We do not base our assessments on vendor-supplied materials alone. Our process involves direct product testing where possible, analysis of verified user reviews from platforms including G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, and TrustRadius, comparison of publicly available pricing and feature documentation, and research into real-world use cases and reported limitations from actual users.
For each tool we review, we evaluate it across six core criteria: feature depth and completeness for the target use case, pricing transparency and value for the intended audience, ease of setup and day-to-day usability, quality of customer support based on published reviews and available evidence, integration capabilities with commonly used business tools, and overall suitability for the specific team size and business type the tool is designed for.
Where we have direct hands-on access to a platform, we use it. Where access is limited, we are transparent about that in the review and rely on verified third-party sources to inform our assessment. We always disclose the basis of our evaluation within the article.
What We Write About and Why
DemoStack covers software tools that are relevant to small businesses, startups, and growing teams. Our content categories include payroll and HR software, accounting and financial tools, sales and CRM platforms, email marketing and automation, e-commerce and dropshipping tools, project management and productivity software, AI tools for business, and security and identity management platforms.
We select topics based on search demand from our target audience, gaps in the quality of existing coverage we have identified, and direct requests from readers. We do not write about a tool simply because we have an affiliate relationship with it. Our affiliate program selection follows our editorial calendar, not the other way around.
We balance our content across review articles, head-to-head comparisons, roundups, and educational guides. This mix ensures that DemoStack serves readers at every stage of their research, whether they are learning about a software category for the first time or comparing two specific tools before making a final decision.
Our Affiliate Relationships
DemoStack earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with software vendors. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase or sign up for a service, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. These commissions are how we fund our research, writing, and site operations, and how we keep our content free to access for all readers.
Our affiliate relationships do not influence which tools we recommend, how we rate them, or what we write about them. We publish honest assessments that include both strengths and limitations of every tool we review, including tools we are affiliated with. We will always tell you when a tool is not the right fit for a given situation, even if we have an affiliate relationship with that tool.
Every article on DemoStack that contains affiliate links includes a clear disclosure at the top of the page in compliance with FTC guidelines. We are committed to full transparency about how our business operates. If you have questions about our affiliate relationships, please contact us at hello@demostack.net.
How We Keep Content Accurate and Current
Software changes constantly. Pricing updates, features are added or removed, products are discontinued, and new competitors emerge. We review and update our published content on a regular basis to ensure that what you read reflects the current state of each platform.
Every article on DemoStack displays its most recent update date so you can assess how current the information is before relying on it. When significant changes occur to a platform we have reviewed, such as a major pricing change or a key feature addition or removal, we prioritize updating that article promptly.
If you notice information in any of our articles that appears outdated or inaccurate, we welcome corrections. Please contact us at hello@demostack.net with the specific detail that needs updating, and we will review and correct it promptly. Reader feedback is one of the most valuable inputs to keeping our content accurate over time.
Our Rating and Scoring Approach
Where we assign ratings or scores to software tools, these reflect our independent assessment based on the evaluation criteria described above. Our ratings are not influenced by vendor relationships, advertising spend, or the size of an affiliate commission. A tool with a high commission rate receives the same objective treatment as one with no affiliate relationship at all.
We do not use a rigid numerical formula for ratings. Instead, our scores reflect a holistic assessment that weights criteria differently depending on the tool category and the audience it serves. A payroll platform is rated primarily on tax compliance and ease of use. A CRM is rated primarily on pipeline management and adoption ease. We always explain the basis of our ratings within the review so you can assess whether our criteria match your own priorities.
